These are custom-made mosaic hearts personalised with your name. I can also make them with inspirational words like "love", "hope" or"joy", or with the word "welcome" if you want something pretty at your door. I can make them with longer names like Annemarie or Leonardo. The size of the letters will just vary from the ones used in these photos.

Price: R300 - R400 (Postage included). Size: +/- 20cm to +/- 30cm in height. For orders email me at jaydymosaics@gm ail.com

The Earth has music for those who listen

Art, like music, is all around us. Almost anything can be reused and recycled to create a work of beauty. I try to live 'green' and recycle a lot of materials for my crafts. Here are examples of mosaic'd wine bottles that I found on the internet (I'll add pictures of my own mosaic'd bottles in a separate post), which would make great decorations for indoors or outdoors. Smaller glass colddrink bottles come in a lot of different colours and are excellent for making outdoor candle-holders or wind-chimes. A cool idea for glass bottle wind-chimes is to colour them yourself using stained glass paint. You can also mosaic it with light tessarae like shells or small ceramic figures of a light weight.

I can also make trays of coasters using old broken plates and cups. Once you start focussing on living a more environmentally friendly lifestyle, you'll soon realize that the possibilities and usesfor recycled materials are infinite.

"The earth has its music for those who will listen, Its bright variations forever abound; With all the wonders that God has bequeathed us, There is nothing that thrills like the magic of sound.” -George Santayana.

Credits to the original artists of these mosaic'd glass bottles. Mine to follow soon.

Mosaic'd Koi Fish Pond

These aren't examples of my work. Rather examples of my dreams, inspirations and aspirations. Since I picked up my first pair of tile nippers and tessarae, I have dreamt of constructing, A) a HUGE outdoor, decorative mosaic piece, and B) a realistic piece, yet, at the same time, a piece that can take the observer away from this world, to a world of fiction. Or a world of make-believe.

As you can see in these photos, it deviates slightly from reality in the sense that you can literally walk on the "water".

From far they look as real as any fish pond and can beautify any garden.

I plan to start making sketches for a pond like this of my own, soon within the new year, and I hope to start construction within the next two years.

Unfortunately this piece will be a tad bit more costly than most others, because of its size and structural requirements, and will take significantly longer, but I believe there is no point in giving up on one's dreams just because of how long it will take. The time will pass anyway.

All credits go to the original designer of this piece and the author of the wise words at the end of this post. I'll look it up sometime.

In the meantime, keep your dreams alive.

Knights Templar Cross

This was one of my first mosaic projects.
The cross is +/- 60cm in height and consists of white ceramic glazed tiles, dark blue ceramic glazed tiles and purple ceramic glazed tiles with a gold shimmer. It was designed as an indoor decorative piece for a home with modern contempary decor themes.
Orders can be placed at jaydymosaics@gmail.com for R550 per cross. Alternative colour schemes or tessarae can be used according to your preferences and personal decor themes.
